Andy is an experienced trial attorney specializing in fraud litigation and complex first-party coverage litigation. He has unique expertise in advising insurers, other businesses, and individuals in the investigation and litigation of suspected or alleged fraud, including arson and intentional losses, conversion and misappropriation, employee theft and dishonesty, material misrepresentation, fabricated or staged losses, racketeering and organized fraud activity, and foreign death investigation. His unique experience includes years of working closely, and successfully, with forensic experts, private investigators, and law enforcement.
Andy is also an experienced coverage attorney specializing in complex first-party coverage analysis and dispute resolution. He has years of experience analyzing and resolving complex insurance coverage issues, including the issues arising out of multiple or concurrent causes of loss, ensuing losses, large fire, wind, water, collapse, and contamination losses, business income and extra expense claims, boiler and machinery coverages, code upgrade and enforcement coverages, and the application of earth movement, faulty design and workmanship, pollution, and other exclusions. Andy has a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from years of defending reputable insurers against allegations of "bad faith" arising out of claims handling and coverage decisions.
Andy is a former shareholder with Bullivant Houser Bailey PC, and a former prosecutor with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office in Portland, Oregon. He has tried scores of cases to jury verdict, has appeared in federal and state courts throughout Oregon and Washington, and our clients routinely seek his advice on claims throughout the United States. Andy is active in the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the International Association of Special Investigation Units (IASIU), and currently sits on the board of directors of the International Association of Arson Investigators-Oregon Chapter (IAAI).
